Challenges
Oral health campaigns are easy to scroll past. The goal was to make the message strange and beautiful enough to stop busy commuters, across two connected versions that stay readable in motion.
Achievements
Delivered a seamless looping animated poster with two distinct sections, plus standalone Decay and Bloom versions.
Combined live-action compositing, collage animation, 3D typography and camera work into one cohesive visual system.
Turned everyday props into a visual story of bad habits versus good habits, so the message reads even without text.
Expanded my motion skill set with After Effects tools including Object Matte, Puppet Pin, Advanced 3D extrusion and expression-driven loops.

Process
Concept: Explored several event themes and chose oral health for its strong visual metaphor: a mouth that grows what we feed it.
Research & moodboard: Studied surreal collage and Victorian anatomical and botanical engravings, and anchored the story to FDI’s theme “A Happy Mouth Is… A Happy Life”.
Design brief & style frames: Defined audience, goals and art direction, then built style frames in Photoshop for the closed, Decay and Bloom states.
Asset preparation: Filmed my own mouth footage, cut out and layered public-domain engravings, and created withered versions of each flower through colour correction.
Animation: Isolated the mouth with AI-assisted mattes, grew and withered flowers with Puppet Pins and Gradient Wipes, animated the arms with jittery cut-out motion, and built the title as extruded 3D type with contrasting materials.
Transitions & polish: Linked the sections with old-film flicker transitions, added a subtle 3D camera move, paper texture and film grain, and refined type hierarchy for legibility.
